to accomplish what so many technology startups predict that they will do when
they’re out raising money, they sold to Google. The other four Canadian companies acquired in
May were all service providers. Overall,

In February, there were eight acquisitions of private
companies that involved a private Canadian entity on at least one end of the

equity sector - the headlines were dominated by strategic buyers. Four of the eight deals were cross-border
transactions and only one of these international deals involved a Canadian
buyer. This means that in total there
were seven Canadian companies acquired in February. Three of the Canadian companies that were
bought are in the technology sector while the other four consisted of....

In a month that was very quiet in terms of financing activity we did see considerable M&A deal flow. The 12 transactions that occurred in November represent the highest total we have reported since December of 2007. Of these 12 transactions, six involved a financial buyer, although one of those was merely providing additional backing to finance a strategic acquisition. There were three acquisitions of Canadian technology companies, all small transactions, two of which were made by

September was a relatively busy month in terms of M&A deal flow. Eight of the 10 transactions this month were of the cross border variety. Among these, there were three headlines involving the private equity arms of large Canadian pension funds, as well as a transaction where two traditional Canadian PE shops acquired an Ontario-based manufacturer of custom garments. The other Canadian-based acquisition targets this month were comprised of three technology companies, a specialty retailer and a financially distressed manufacturer of anti-terrorism equipment.
