M&A News - October 2009

Posted in M&A News

We came across six M&A announcements this October.  Two of these involved cross-border transactions.  Things slowed down somewhat from the ten transactions we reported in September.  This October we also did not see any direct acquisitions by financial buyers, although we did see an indirect buyout by an Ontario pension plan through one of its existing portfolio companies.  The targets included two software companies, a couple of service providers, an internet company, and a wind farm.

Canadian M&A Transactions:

Toronto’s Hosted Data Transaction Solutions (TSX: HDX), a provider of enterprise management tools, acquired A&A Ltd, a point-of-sale technology company operating out of Ottawa.

Mississauga-based Maxxam Analytics International (owned by OMERS), expended its market share in the analytical laboratory business by acquiring BC-based Cantest.

Critical Control Solutions, a Calgary-based provider of information management solutions, has acquired Southport Data Systems, a Markham-based provider of business outsourcing solutions, for $2.3 Million

Wind Works Power Corp, an Ottawa-headquartered developer of wind energy projects in North America, has acquired a 70% interest in the Skyway 126 Wind Energy Inc project.  The wind farm site is located in Ontario’s Grey-Highlands Township.

Cross Border M&A:

NeuLion (TSX: NLN), a New York company providing diverse programming over the Internet, paid $8.1 million to extend its offering of sports programming by acquiring BC’s Interactive Netcasting Systems.

Reva Solutions, a Vancouver-based software company developing ECM and business intelligence solutions, acquired the Microsoft business unit of Seattle-based Saltmine LLC, a provider of software development and other IT services.
